Canfor to buy Balfour Forest Products for 93.75 million
Canfor announces the acquisition of Balfour Forest Products Inc including Peace Wood Products in Taylor. The deal, valued at 93.75 million, may include up to one million Canfor shares in payment. Balfour produced 600 million board feet and 318000 bone dry units of chips in 1988 and holds 1.75 million cubic metres of annual allowable cut in BC.

Trees for Canada aims to plant two million trees this year
Scouts Canada volunteers across most provinces and the Northwest Territories will plant two million trees as part of the Trees for Canada campaign to help reduce flooding and boost resources. In Chetwynd the South Peace District Boy Scouts will plant trees on May 21 at Bullmoose Creek, while pledges run May 1 to May 5. Proceeds stay local, with some funding the Canadian Scout Brotherhood Fund supporting literacy, reforestation, and microenterprise in developing communities.
