Brule Mine to idl by May 26 after staged layoffs
Walter Energy officials announce Brule Mine will idle by May 26 with 23 workers laid off this week. The shutdown follows the removal of coal stockpiles bound for market, with a small maintenance crew remaining onsite. Past closures hit Willow Creek Wolverine and 2013 Willow Creek cuts left 250 workers without jobs.
