Northern road funds aim to boost jobs and safety

Energy Minister Dan Miller and Transportation Minister Harry Lali unveiled a 66 million dollar northern roads initiative for 1998/99. The plan doubles northern investments from last year, with Peace River South receiving over 14.5 million for capital and rehabilitation, part of a Jobs for BC strategy and a project list spanning Highway 97 reconstructions, resurfacing, sealcoating and safety studies including a Chetwynd traffic study. Local MLA Jack Weisgerber welcomed the announcement.

Chetwynd Karate Club wins at Tumbler Ridge tournament

Chetwynd Karate Club sent ten competitors from Chetwynd and Hudsons Hope to the annual tournament in Tumbler Ridge on April 4. Robyn Klassen Stefen Osl David Der Yaohao Tse Bruce Quibell Travis Quibell Frank Bassett Bobby Bassett Byron Green and John Stender earned seven first place finishes four seconds and four thirds for a total 15 medals.
