Willow Creek to Idle Chetwynd Mines by July 2014
Walter Energy will idle the Brule and Willow Creek mines near Chetwynd by July 2014 while continuing prep plant operations to finish coal already mined. As of 2013 year end the company held about 1.1 million tonnes of Canadian coal in inventory with 80 workers at Willow Creek and Moody's downgrade adding pressure amid weak metallurgical coal markets.
