District settles with Pembina over 2000 Pine River oil spill
The District of Chetwynd ends its civil suit after accepting a 1.4 million settlement from Pembina related to the August 1 2000 sour crude oil spill. Total recoveries exceed 4.6 million, with disputes over allowable overhead costs delaying earlier agreement. Mayor Evan Saugstad notes the deal covers future costs and relieves Pembina and insurers of further liability.
