Sacred native spirituality program at Renous Penitentiary
In Renous New Brunswick the Correctional Service of Canada runs a full native spirituality program inside the maximum security facility. A sacred area with a teepee and sweat lodges hosts ceremonies while a native liaison and elders advise the system. The warden backs the CSC task force on Aboriginal people in corrections and staff receive cultural awareness training.
