BC Rail communities to share $2 million in grants
British Columbia will pay $2 million in interim grants in lieu of property tax to BC Rail corridor municipalities and regional districts in 1996. Prince George, Mackenzie, Fort St. James, Dawson Creek, Tumbler Ridge, Fort St. John, Chetwynd, and Taylor receive varying amounts, with four regional districts also benefiting. BC Rail will fund the grants as an operating cost. A permanent program is planned for 1997 with different amounts and distribution.
