Reindeer brucellosis tests in South Peace area
Agriculture Canada officials report brucellosis fears in Dawson Creek reindeer are being managed. Of 288 reindeer tested between February 15 and 23, about three dozen showed positive or suspicious results. Eight freshly slaughtered positives were sampled to identify the strain, brucella suis biovar 4, which does not affect cattle. About 30 reindeer will be slaughtered with government reimbursement to South Peace farmers.
