The Sixth Annual Totem Invitational Freeskate brought 167 competitors from 11 communities to the arena the weekend of March 22. Mayor Lasser opened the ceremony and medal presentations Saturday night as participants received applause and flowers after each performance.
April 7 marks Chetwynd Block Parent Week as the group celebrates a year of activity with about forty four Block Parents in Chetwynd and nearby areas. They will show a Block Parent film to kindergarten and preschoolers and host a town wide blitz to recruit more volunteers this spring. Sponsors provide support for highway signs and other projects. RCMP detachment and Windrem and CSS schools assist on multiple projects addressing challenges in organizing the program. A Flea Market and Bake Sale aims to raise additional funding.
On March 21 a break in occurred on Kurrata Road with $40 stolen and police investigating. Several residents were arrested for public intoxication and charges are pending. A tire was slashed at Gwillim Garden apartments on March 22. Youths started a bush fire behind Wabi Crescent. fire department extinguished it. A shoplifter was captured at Red Rooster. the juvenile will be charged.
