OTTAWA May 4 The House Pensions Committee met in private session this morning and is understood to favor continuing pensions on the present basis for another year. CHEAPER GOODS FROM GERMANY HURT U S TRADE Urged immediate congressional action to curb German imports. Secretary Hoover told the Ways and Means Committee that a revived German trade is driving U S firms out of business. A protective tariff was urged and a United States standard of valuation to replace the present value of imports. Hoover said the proposed measures are needed by the current trade crisis and currency depreciation in Germany and other nations.
