James Belanger, a French man from Byng Inlet, wandered nine miles east of French River, Ont., for seven days after losing work and money. In Montreal on June 9 a pastoral letter from Archbishop Bruchesi was read throughout the Archdiocese urging rejection of La Lumier. The letter condemns a monthly review that ridicules church traditions and warns Le Pays editor M. L. A. to align its policy with Catholic teachings. Le Pays has pushed educational reform and opposed by the church.
