In Kingston Ontario on June 1 Jas Blake, 27, assaulted Joseph Friend, 45, on a public street after drinking. Magistrate Farrel fined Blake $15 and ordered two months in jail. Friend, recently discharged from St. Luke's Hospital in Ottawa after a serious illness, traveled to Kingston for rest and narrowly escaped fatal injuries.
The Prince of Monaco plans a summer trip to Canada to visit his friend Henri Menier the “Chocolate King” owner of Anticosti Island. He will travel on his private yacht and may tour the gulf coast works of progress before joining Menier for a later visit. A brief Canada tour from there is possible before returning home.
Prince John of Denmark died prompting changes to coronation entertainments. King George did not attend the Devonshire House ball, and Queen Mary left for dinner before dancing, while the Duke of Devonshire and the Duchess, and Duke and Duchess of Connaught, attended with other royals.
Francis Joseph hosted Count Khuen Von Héderváry at the Royal Palace in Beloved Hungary. The Emperor, whose health had raised concern, entertained the statesman at luncheon and will depart for Vienna today.
At Murray Harbor on May 28 Mary Olga Herring died after a lingering illness. She joined the Lord about two years ago during a revival at Jape Bear. She leaves her parents William F and Mrs. Herring and five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held May 29 at the Methodist Church with Rev. McNeil and the pastor officiating. The family receives sympathy and comfort in this time of bereavement.
