British Army Uses Full Advertising Push in London

The army announces a modern recruitment drive starting with full-page newspaper ads in London and upcoming theater film presentations. Twenty five thousand troops helped stage scenes for the films showing everyday life in the great centers. Subsequent screenings will reach provinces with bands parading and posters on billboards as recruiting agents press the appeal.

Will case over $1 million at Osgoode Hall

The McVicar will dispute in Port Arthur involves $1,000,000. A master in chambers at Osgoode hall heard an application to extend the time to produce evidence from Mrs. Goldsmith, McVicar’s housekeeper. Her testimony is key since Mc Vicar’s physician is deceased and Goldsmith recently gave birth. The period was extended to March first.

Beardsley Surrenders After Eight Day Stand In Mayville

Beardsley, once a defiant outlaw, surrenders to Sheriff Anderson after a siege at a hilltop farmhouse near Stummerdale. He agreed to go to Mayville with hotelman Charles Backus, entering unarmed. Postmaster Putnam recovers, Edna Pier wounded, nine children moved to safety.

Lock of Lincoln hair sells for 330 at New York auction

At a sale of Lincoln memorabilia from Major William H. Lambert's library in New York, C Hines paid 330 for a lock cut from Lincoln the night he was assassinated. Other items included Lincoln cuff buttons 150 and his inkstand 505, chair 265, cane 435, and Whitman lecture manuscript 120. The sale totaled 52439.10 for 1028 items. Remaining memorabilia to be auctioned later.
