Hit with brick yields diamond ring in Oplin incident
In Oplin Missouri on December 31 Washingtonston Jones a colored hotel porter was struck on the head with a brick. The brick broke and a diamond ring was knocked loose valued at about 50 dollars. Jones grabbed the ring and suffered only a minor head injury. The diamond remained with him as the brick was formed from clay.
