The Central Guardian notes an entertainment and basket social at Springfield Lot 67 on Tuesday February 3 with admission of 25 cents. Also listed are an agricultural short course starting February 11 at Grand River and notices to advertisers about copy deadlines.
The Mayfield W F M 8 parlor social at Mrs J E Fraser’s home on Wednesday January 28 featured conversation games readings recitations vocal and instrumental music. Miss Annie Laura Wyand sang The Long Long Trail to much praise aided by her notable lineage. A luncheon followed and funds were raised for the society with thanks extended to the hosts.
Government stamped wrappers mark the Davis and Fraser sausage as fresh and top quality. Described as one of the choicest meat foods on the market and notably economical due to no waste in use.
The steamer Stanley, now in Halifax, is expected to come off the dry dock in a day or two after a complete overhaul. She is commanded by Capt. Blois, formerly of the steamer Aberdeen and recently with the Canadian Navy.

A shipment has arrived in St John and is being unloaded. Fourteen more cars are en route or ready for shipment. The cargo mainly includes steam boilers motors dynamos and other electrical apparatus to power machine shops pumps and related drydock operations. The equipment will be stored in a large frame warehouse measuring one hundred by eighty feet until needed.
Eighteen schooners are frozen in the Lockeport harbor. The Marine Department was asked to send a steamer to release them. The Petrel is at Lunenburg breaking up ice to enable the vessels to sail, then will be ordered to Lockeport.
Remote relief for Magdalen Islands hinges on weather as the Montcalm ice breaker remains stuck between the mainland and the islands. Marine Department advices show no progress after several days stuck in ice, delaying aid to the communities there.
The Stanley Bridge Dairying Co. will hold its annual meeting in the Hall at Stanley Bridge on Tuesday February 10 at 2 o clock P M J H SIMPSON secretary
