The House committee discussed amending the Road Act of 1928. The changes repeal section 12 and alter tax collection, making arrears payable after December 31 and collected with income and property taxes. Section 14 is repealed to create road divisions up to twenty five.
In Copenhagen on April 10 Anders Hans Hansen, a mechanic, saved his life by performing an improvised self operation after a bread crust became lodged in his throat. He used a pocket knife to make an incision beneath the bulging crust and survived, doctors say.

New York postal inspectors report Thomas J. Callegy, a porter at the New York General Post Office, confessed to constructing the scare bomb addressed to Governor Roosevelt in a bid for promotion. Yesterday in the Legislative Assembly Mr Harry Cox scored Mr Angus MacPhee for unmanly conduct in criticising the Minister of Agriculture while the minister lay sick in bed. The accusation related to aiding the British Empire Parliamentarians during their visit to the city on a Sunday last September.
New York April 10 Calvin Coolidge accepted nomination as a board member of the New York Life Insurance Company to replace the late Ambassador Myron Herrick. This marks his first official post retirement from office March 4. He follows Grover Cleveland who served with Equitable Life. Coolidge to be elected at the May board meeting.
Eleven Renfrew farmers seek 9440 in damages after cattle and horses died following a serum given by W. L. Stevenson the veterinarian. W. E. Saunders and Company are named for preparing the serum in the action filed in Toronto.
Believed drowned after attempting to walk across the ice near River Inhabitants. Duncan Cameron of Askillon has not been seen since last Friday, the second fatality at River Inhabitants in a month following Daniel MacKinnon who disappeared in early March.
Toronto to Halifax report fair to cloudy weather with variable winds and temperatures ranging from the mid forties to mid sixties. Boston and New York show snow and cloudy conditions while tides and moon phase are noted for Charlottetown Summerside and local harbors.

King George sends a cheque and personal letter to Mrs. G A Studdert Kennedy widow of the wartime chaplain known as Woodbine Willie. The death of Dr Studdert Kennedy left the widow and two children almost penniless as supporters started a fund. The King stressed the gift was personal, not a fund contribution.
Ottawa April 10 annual report of Sir Henry Thornton shows CN railways 1928 operations with revenue of 276,631,921 and operating income of 53,213,795 after expenses taxes and charges. earnings up 11.2 percent over 1927. The document notes progress across departments and a higher gross income, amid government plans to reorganize finances and cut unproductive capital.
The Premier vowed action and access to any needed information. Hon J D Stewart questioned whether earnings and control flow to a parent company or remain in the province. He noted provisions for possible taxes and that the company claimed independence.
In the legislature Hon. B. W. LePage stated the Saunders Government would pursue a Government Control Act if Plebiscite results favor such control. He argued the Prohibition party would be safest to lead any Government Control initiative and defended prohibition against government ownership.
Eddie Cassie alias Meddie Casey and Henry Gallant both 18, from Baddeck P E I, were sent up for trial in the Supreme Court by Magistrate M A Kelly after hearing the charge of breaking and entering the private premises of I W Killam at Flatlands Restigouche on the night of March 22. The prosecution was led by J Allan LeBlanc of Dalhousie. They will appear before Judge A T Le Blanc at Dalhousie on April 23.
