Augathella Residents Seek Separate Murweh Shire

At a public Augathella meeting an advisory committee drafted a letter urging the Home Secretary to allow a separate shire for Augathella and district to govern the hospital and local boards. The missive argues that a Charleville town council and Murweh Shire would replace but not sever the area, preserving hospital control here and protecting local services and pride.

100 Whales Stranded Near Tutlow Beach Tasmania

A mass strand of about 200 whales, ranging 4 to 25 feet long and up to 2 feet in girth, was reported on Monitar at Tutlow's beach near Stanier Tasmania. The stranding covered an area of roughly one acre and puzzled observers with varied reasons for their appearance. Several of the creatures were observed in shallow water, some washed ashore, while attempts to explain the event focused on calm seas and harbor entry conditions.

Charleville Voice Fears for Local Hospital and Council Autonomy

The text argues for a locally controlled hospital board and shire autonomy centered on Angathella and Charleville. It recalls 1929 and 1933 hardships, warns against government cuts, and stresses the need to keep the hospital, workers, and Labour spirit as central to the town’s future. It highlights war memorials and Anzac Day rituals as enduring ties to sacrifice.
