Balloo Shire Council Hikes General Rate Amid War Effort
At the July 19 meeting Balloo Shire Council approved a 4d in the £ general rate with other rates unchanged. The chairman Dr. G F Gooch noted property valuations require higher rents to support Crown rentals, and warned that taxation must rise to fund essential services during wartime. The annual report showed modest surpluses in General Fund and Electric Light and Waterworks accounts, refunds from Main Roads, and road repairs funded despite floods. The health inspector reported no major epidemics, and the council thanked staff, while Dr. Cameron resigned.
