Paris attracts attention to Sir Sidney Smith Barbary campaign

The project of Sir Sidney Smith to repress Barbary pirates and rescue Christians from slavery gains notice in Paris. A meeting in Paris with Sir Sidney as president is noted. It is said Britain’s efforts prompted the Grand Signor to send an envoy to the Dey of Algiers demanding release of 153 Greeks and 3 Austrians, which the Dey agreed to. Markets show rising prices across the kingdom including Wakefield and Leeds. Canterbury records wheat highs and lows. Roscoe Clarke and Roscoe bankers announce plan to repay creditors and resume business after a prior stoppage, with a Liverpool creditors’ meeting showing public support for Mr. Roscoe.
