H H Bowden the absconding assistant paymaster of the Halls Mining company of Nelson was arrested in Spokane Tuesday night while gambling. He faces charges of appropriating about 2700 dollars of his employer's funds with 1400 dollars found on his person at arrest.

Pontifex Mining to Expand Work at Phoenix Ore Vein

The Pontifex Mining Company plans continuous night and day work at the Phoenix claim on Huckleberry mountain after rich ore was found. Assays average over $30 per ton. The 84 foot level lead is over 30 feet wide, with 60 more feet needed to cross it. Main shaft at 91 feet. engineer R H Hammill seeks more miners as the force will double.

Burnt Basin Mines Report Progress in February

Foremen Thompson of the Mystery reports a 20 foot tunnel extension to 147 feet in Burnt Basin with mineralized ground suggesting the ledge may be near. Foreman Sinclair of Avon notes a 25 foot February gain, ground hardening, and signs indicating the ledge could be reached soon.
