Meidderfontein dynamite factory manager M De Long reports from Paris that the Boers have prepared for years for a full-scale clash with Britain. Bodies of two Stormberg guides found shot on battlefield

A Frere Camp dispatch to the Daily Mail reports two guides who misled Gen. Gatacre at Stormberg were found dead on the battlefield, having been shot.

Presbytery of Kootenay Meets in Grand Forks

A pro renata meeting of the Presbytery of Kootenay met in Grand Forks on Tuesday at 2 30 p m. The Fernie call to Rev D L Gordon was deferred to Nelson after the New Year. The assembly remit on Social Worship was also deferred. Candidates for ordination were examined and approved and arrangements made. An evening report notes Overton Paine’s alleged stock profits of 2 000 000 in the recent break. Also plans for Fort Simpson Teslin Dawson Railway Co incorporation were discussed. A Montreal dispatch reports Ottawa seeking corrected names and addresses of Canadians at the front, but no report had arrived. Victoria Colonist supports Boundary representation claims.

Ordination Services Held for Robertson and Alexander

In Alberta Hall Grand Forks James R. Robertson was ordained as a Presbyterian missionary with Rev. Joseph McCoy presiding and Rev. D. McG Gandier addressing the crowd. A similar ordination for W. A. Alexander occurred Wednesday evening at the Columbia Presbyterian church with Rev. Gandier and Rev. McCoy delivering remarks. Large congregations attended both services.

Boers Relief Fund Subscriptions Boosted in Spokane

A meeting in Spokane last Saturday evening raised a large sum for widows and orphans of Boers who died in battle. The Pontifex claim on Huckleberry Mountain reportedly struck a very large body of rich copper bearing quartz.

The Uitlander Club met at Mrs. McLeod's on Wednesday. Donald McLeod made a business trip to Spokane this week. B F Woodman left for Spokane Wednesday to spend Christmas. Jack Stewart of Mann Foley Bros Larson was in town a day or so. The CPR section house is nearly finished and a water tank will be erected at the bridge. Mrs T F Carden and Mrs D McLeod will entertain friends at Christmas dinners. C H May has completed a contract with Russell Mining to pack about 12000 pounds of supplies. A fundraiser was held to repair the swamp road for stage trips to Cascade. donors were fair, not liberal as hoped.
