A Carcoar Red Cross house-to-house canvass was held in June to collect for POW relief and support. Mrs Barrett Mrs Pil wuners and Mrs Clark led the local volunteers in Belubula district and surrounding streets as town residents gathered to contribute.
In a brief obituary a Mrs Blen and Mrs R Melville are named as relatives. The notice notes a death at age 83 and references prior residence and Young days. Predeceased relatives and local connections are mentioned in sparse, damaged OCR text.
The Mandurama young ladies organized a euchre party and dance last Friday night with strong patronage. Door takings exceeded £6 and Mrs Parry won the euchre prize. Music by Miss O’Brien of Woodstock. MC duties by Mr R Robson. Local soldiers arrived on leave, and residents from munition works also visited. Health update: Mr George Willard, inmate at Carcour Hospital, is much improved. Pte Tom Francis, wounded abroad, is spending leave with his parents. Recent rain brought cold winds and frosts to Mandurama.
Grandchildren and two brothers feature in the notice. One brother fought in the Boer War, another mined the Binni Creek goldfields. The deceased enjoyed good health until six weeks ago. The service left the Church of England for Cowra cemetery with BD. J. Nichol in charge of the funeral arts and Archdeacon Mirrington officiating.
The June meeting of the Carcoar Younger Set approved continuing monthly tournaments. The next event is scheduled for Sunday June 21. The group also plans a children's party and letter-writing to lads in the forces, with several donations and prizes noted.
A young son of Mr and Mrs A W Rowlands of Hillton Mandurama was thrown from a pony. He struck a bank on falling and sustained fractures to one or two ribs.
The Carcoar District Hospital board met with A W May chairing. Walker pledged help. apologies from N S Done and FR Daly. Matron V Boleyn Smedley reported April daily average 14.7 with three major and four minor operations. A 5 per week bonus for Sister M Wade after six months was approved. Arrangements for May supplies to the hospital were endorsed. The Secretary reported that Directors Done and Daly visited the hospital regarding verbal complaints and were assured by all patients concerned that they had no complaints about their treatment. The report was accepted.
