Fadden pressed a postwar credits proposal to ease war costs on workers saying the public would shoulder the burden while half of a 10 shillings weekly contribution would count as tax and the rest would be repaid after the war. Curtin branded the plan as bank and vowed no wage tax under a Labor government. McKell in New South Wales roused labor opposition by promising wage tax repeal and similar measures.
Mrs. James Smith of Hilltop Carcoar was bedbound for days causing anxiety among relatives. Local servicemen home on leave include Sgt. Cec Clarke Pte Roy Davis and Pte J Brock. Tom Carroll of Errowanbang ill in hospital but returned home. A School of Arts euchre party and dance raised funds with Mrs A Smith and Mrs H Simmonds winning the trophy and Reg Cassidy taking a pair of fowls.
Despite a stock value slide of over 2d per head, local stock were well represented at Thursday's Homebush sales last week. Prices show E B Matters Carcoar 120 lambs to 26s averaging 25s 3d plus H Connolly Carcoar 68 lambs to 23s 10d, 12 weeks to 22s 4d, 22 x weeks and heavy lambs to 21s 10d. Estate H A Rothery Waugoola 96 w to 25s 2d averaging 24s 7d. A Black Lyndhurst 109 x ordinary to 24s averaging 41s 3d.
Miss Ida Lorking state organizer of the Junior Red Cross paid a visit to Neville school on Monday and delivered an interesting address to the children. Mrs Doug Colburt and her infant son Barrie were discharged from Blayney Hospital last week. A C 1 Arthur McGregor spent leave with his parents recently.
An old advertisement promotes R P Karle efficient and prompt service with Neville all classes of carrying work done and a campaign urging soldiers to vote informed in the upcoming federal election. It appeals to mothers wives and sisters to send the article or the whole paper to their soldier. Further articles in the series are promised.
The Man durama Red Cross sub-branch reports over £443 raised by June 30 1943, surpassing the prior year by more than £100. The balance sheet, presented at the annual meeting, shows detailed receipts and expenditures including shop takings, Burnt Yards sub-branch support, and numerous donations. Officers elected include Mrs R J Fagan as president and Mrs J Payne as treasurer.
Dr. A H Denton at Lyndhurst Shire Council meeting urged postwar reconstruction to include education, health, closer settlement and industrial growth. He called for closer settlement to save Mandurama Carcoar, a new high school for Carcoar Mandurama area, better hospitals, and free education for all children. He warned Wyangala Dam as a white elephant and pressed long term plans to feed the world and raise living standards with more children and robust schooling. The council endorsed pushing for at least one high school per shire and better educational facilities in rural areas.
At the Tuesday CWA meeting Mrs. Ollerenshaw was presented with a pair of pictures as a farewell gift from fellow members.
