Successful Recruiting Meeting Last Night

A late night recruiting meeting opened by Chairman A G Graham drew a full theatre crowd. Speeches by J D Robertson MPP R W Cumming and Lance Corp Bomford impressed. Lieut Col J Harvey Hearn of the 214th Northeastern Saskatchewan Battalion delivered the keynote. Music by the band and performances by Weir and Master Duke pleased attendees. Planning notes include the Doukhobor Block annex as the platoon’s first headquarters and a social follow up at Mayor Korbin’s home. Drilling began this afternoon with further progress due next week.

Destruction of Gophers Drives Saskatchewan Losses

Government bulletin notes farmers report losses up to ten percent of 1915 crops due to gophers. Saskatchewan could have produced two percent more grain, saving about four million dollars.
