Canberra court upholds eight month tax fraud sentence
Mr Justice Franks in the ACT Supreme Court dismissed 13 appeals by Leslie James McDermott 37 of Moodie Street Farrer against four and four month jail terms totaling eight months imposed by a magistrate for Income Tax Assessment Act offences. The Crown said deductions of 11 400 258 were not remitted August 1970 to September 1972. McDermott had paid 3 350 after sentencing.

Two on charges over site thefts in Canberra
A 29 year old brick layer was committed to the Supreme Court after admitting to stealing two cement mixers and four wheelbarrows worth about 670 dollars on September 21 1972 and 600 dollars on December 2 1972. Another bricklayer contractor faced three charges of receiving stolen mixers and agreed to bail. A series of drug and drink driving cases followed with fines licences suspended and orders to repay stolen goods where applicable.
