Federal Ministers will not be able to purchase executive government houses in Canberra. Ministers may be offered furnished or unfurnished Canberra flats or houses while in office, with mandates to vacate on leaving ministry, after which they may access government flats for rent as desired. The Interior Minister Mer Hunt announced the policy in Parliament amid a review of executive housing conducted about a year ago by Prime Minister McMahon.
