Rosemary Bell was named Miss A C T and Southern Tablelands in Miss Australia Quest judging at Hotel Canberra. She wore a red satin gown and received the sash from Lady Brooks as 500 guests watched. The 27 contestants from the region helped raise a record sum for the Spastic Society, Canberra girls contributing £4,560 with more from other entrants pending totals.
Rosemary from Rosemary district wins the Miss Australia style event in Canberra after 18 hours of judging and a late parade. She is daughter of Brigadier A. T. Bell and has lived in Japan Singapore France and England. The event raised over £50000 for spastic children with the ACT section raising a record £4560.
Government forces fought to halt a rebel tank column approaching Buenos Aires near La Plata, with three rebel tanks reported knocked out in two hours of combat. No casualties were listed. A rebel radio claimed a two hour truce ordered by President Jose Maria Guido was being observed. General Ongania left for a conference with Guido.
