Nauru will receive 12 30 per ton for 1.75 million tons of phosphate to be supplied to Australia and New Zealand in 1970 71, a rise of 30g a ton. The two year Canberra agreement with Australia New Zealand and Britain sets 17 million tons annually at 12 a long ton, with Australia taking about 60 percent and New Zealand around 20 percent. The deal allows for additional uses up to 300 000 tons a year and may be reviewed for 1971 72.
Sydney report: Stephen Charles Towns and co defendant from Glebe Gollenham Road Glebe jailed after refusal to undertake an army medical examination for national service. Townsend failed plea and faced seven days sentence for not attending the May 17 examination.
