Fourth VC Awarded in Vietnam

In Saigon Australian authorities announced a fourth Victoria Cross for Vietnam to Warrant Officer Keith Payne of Brisbane. The 34 year old faced heavy fire, exposed himself to save comrades, and helped organize defenses despite injuries. He later retrieved wounded and remained in danger to support his unit. New gamma ray source found in space by Melbourne and US teams

A joint team from Case Western Reserve University and Melbourne University reports discovery of high energy gamma rays beyond our galaxy. Poem Recovered From Mount Coree Cairn Burial

Mr Jack Shumack of Yarralumia recalled a 1926 poem he wrote and buried at Mount Coree while part of a surveying party that dismantled a stone cairn marking the trigonometric station on Mount Coree. The Department of the Interior says cairns across the ACT are being replaced with metal beacons.

Mt Isa Mines posts record annual profit in 1908 09
