Canberra begins a grand royal visit with a bright opening as crowds gather at the railway station. Soldiers in Royal Australian Artillery formations move to stations, while the Duke and royal retinue arrive in a ceremonial procession amid a setting sun and palace-like capital views.
A royal procession moved from the railway station through Wentworth Avenue to Parliament House. Crowds cheered as the royal car passed, with police escorts and a guard of honour. The Duke and Duchess met officials, and the national anthem was sung as the visit proceeded to the Prime Minister and other dignitaries.

The Senate and House of Representatives welcome His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester on his first official visit to an Australian Dominion. The message expresses loyalty to the King, pride in the visit, and aims at cooperation during world crisis to strengthen ties within the British Commonwealth. It notes Australia’s development, democratic ideals, and mutual assistance for prosperity. The message is signed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House.
The Duke of Globe planted two Pinus halepensis trees grown from Gallipoli seed at the Canberra War Memorial. A large crowd gathered in bright sunshine, pressing near the royal party as guards and officials conducted a orderly ceremony. The Duke inspected the guards, received a wreath, and planted the tree with the Prime Minister present, before leaving to the National Anthem.
His Royal Highness the Duke toured the Institute of Anatomy with Curator Sir Colin McKenzie and Lady McKenzie. He examined the anthropological collection on primitive Australia, WWI injuries, the platypus life history, and the appendix development exhibit. He noted interest in Thoroughbred photos and heart weights of Eclipse and Phar Lap.
The Duke toured the Plant Industry section of the Council for Science and Industrial Research, guided by Dr. B T Dickaoa. The visit highlighted the Council functions and generous support from the Empire Marketing Board, with collaboration from other scientific institutions. Davai in plants were being developed into new products, explained Br. Dicionn.
Rain drenched the city as ceremonies at the War Memorial and state functions faced a heavy downpour. Despite umbrellas and sheltered moments, showers interrupted events and the Prime Minister's lodge tea, delaying the evening plans before guests retired to quarters.
