As Queanbeyan and the Queanbeyan River flooded, Oaks Estate fuel depots risked contaminating downstream waters if underground tanks released fuel. Scrivener Dam Water Surge Exceeds Normal Flow
A Saturday peak saw Scrivener Dam release water via its five spill gates between 5 40pm and 6 0pm, reaching about 1000 cubic metres per second versus the normal two. Officials said the intake into the lake reached 6600 cubic metres per second to prevent flooding. The viewing platform below the dam was submerged and fencing knocked over.
