Talks wind up chicken war with EC US deal
The six nations reached a hurried agreement on frozen poultry imports after a Press conference by a Common Market spokesman following US Ambassador John Tothill’s visit to EC headquarters. A letter was sent to the GATT executive secretary and the accord was described as jointly worked out by the EC Commission and the US mission to the Common Market. The dispute has strained US EC ties for six months with trade estimates around 46 million dollars by US officials and 190 million dollars by the EC.
