CSIRO prototypes cold-air showers aid hot-work cooling
CSIRO engineers Keith Robeson and Ron Downie tested three prototype cold-air showers to reduce heat stress in laundries, shearing sheds, iron foundries, glass factories, and breweries. Downward jets, multiple small ceiling vents, and transparent curtains provide targeted relief while workers remain in place. The project, funded about 50000 dollars with half from AEBIRA, may expand to heat radiation screens and cool-work clothes despite workers’ reluctance to liquid cooled suits.

Sir Hugh Ennor dies prominent Australian biochemist aged 65
Sir Hugh Ennor former head of the Department of Science and influential Australian biochemist died in Canberra on Friday at age 65. He retired last Monday and will be cremated this afternoon. He served as Secretary of Education and Science from 1967 and as Deputy Vice chancellor of the Australian National University from 1964 to 1967. He also led the John Curtin School of Medical Research for 14 years to 1976 and helped found the National Heart Foundation. He suffered stomach ulcers and was treated by Sydney doctors.
