Two RAN mine countermeasures vessels HMAS Curlew and HMAS Sniper will sonar sweep a wide area in Port Phillip Bay to locate three depth charges dropped during World War II near Symonds Channel off Port Arlington. Injured in jet flight mishap over South Australia

An eastbound TAA Boeing 727 encountered severe turbulence near Adelaide injuring more than a dozen passengers. The plane landed safely at Adelaide Airport with 11 taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, others treated aboard or continued on different aircraft. Passengers reported a chaotic scene as turbulence snapped seats and hurled hostesses. One passenger described the ceiling buckling and injuries including a cut lip and bruises.
