Athens reports Greek forces strike to the Delveio and Sart rounds while Italians pull back across central Albania. The Prime Minister Mr Mensies stated no Australian force has been sent to Greece after talks with London and the AIF chief. The RAF launched a major night assault on invasion targets in France and Germany. A Rome dispatch says the enemy attacked Durarso and a plane was shot down. A fighter downed a Wellington bomber north of Malta. The enemy bombed Tobruk and Bardia with light damage and some wounded.
Berne correspondent for the Associated Press reports all leave cancelled for the German army of occupation in Alsace Lorraine. German troop movements continue across Alsace Lorraine, with units redeploying and repositioning as the front lines shift.
British fighters repelled several Dornier and bomber formations off the southeast coast. A Dornier 215 was shot down after machine gunning an aerodrome in western England. Spitfires intercepted the raid, sinking one bomber three miles from the coast and rescuing a wounded enemy. A second bomber fell off the southeast coast. a third was shot down earlier in the afternoon. London experienced only a brief daylight alert before nightfall.
Hanoi reports Siamese border clashes near Popet with troops repulsed. several police guards killed or wounded in Saigon area attacks. London radios note German raiders, searchlights and bomb damage across London and eastern counties, with casualties and multiple fires as snow briefly falls.
The House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Mr Bloom said Britain does not need money but credits. He urged lists of British needs for credits and suggested supplying planes or other gear without amending the Johnson Act. He dismissed Mr Fish’s proposal of British possessions as absurd.
Washington reports a British request for Consolidated Aircraft to supply a new type PBY long-range patrol bomber. The program aims at 400 bombers by U S and allied lines with Britain, Australia, and other allies contributing to the effort.
