Queen approves a six day itinerary with Prince Philip for February and March including children's functions bush carnival yachting regatta race meeting and a warf carnival. The main purpose is to attend Canberra jubilee celebrations and mark the founding of Canberra with official events and a broadcast to the outback.
The planned Royal visit by Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh outlines calls to Melbourne Hobart Sydney Brisbane and Perth along with Northern Territory ports Kununurra and Geraldton. A seven day program includes a Royal yacht voyage and a stay in Darwin for the Ord River project with a focus on development and public access. The trip starts Monday with refueling stops and ends March 27 returning to the coast.
A statewide search is on for Gordon John Tompkins, 35, of Richmond near Sydney, who vanished with his six children after a domestic argument. Detectives say they fear for the safety of the man and the children, who range from 0 to 12 years old, with the last sighting around 1:30 pm Saturday.
About 1000 people attended the Remembrance Day ceremony at the War Memorial. The crowd observed a two minute silence for the fallen of the two world wars.
