Tragic drowning of mother and two children near Brisbane
A university lecturer Mrs Tisbethe Lacy Tarnawski and her two children, Nechaela Mary aged 20 months and Nicholas aged seven, died after falling from a trimaran named Naxos as the boat encountered rough seas. Husband Josef Tarnawski, steering, leapt to save them but could not reach his wife. The body of Mr Tarnawski was recovered by a fisherman. The accident occurred in a widening water stretch near the Brisbane River. the family resided at The Gap and were visiting Southport for the week. Mrs Tarnawski taught phonetics in the University of Queensland English Department.

Wardlaw, an Auckland businessman, said the crisis had eroded his sense of responsibility and he would resign with a clear conscience. Reverend Blaikie said he had no intention of resigning. The assembly ruled no doctrinal error was established and the case was closed.
