Battalions to be relieved in Vietnam redeployment plan
The Royal Australian Regiment will rotate combat units in Vietnam between March and June this year. The 2nd and 7th Battalions will be replaced by the 1st and 4th Battalions. The 1st Battalion now at Holsworthy will replace the 7th in March and April, and the 4th Battalion from Enoggera will replace the 2nd in May and June. The 4th Field Regiment will be replaced by the 12th Field Regiment next year. An instructor, Lieutenant-Colonel A L Morrison, will command the new 9th Battalion to be raised this month at Woodside. Lieutenant-Colonel C N Khan will command the 5th Battalion at Holsworthy.

Eagle in a cage fined for protected species
Carmine Carrales of Yarralumla was fined 20 pounds in Canberra Petty Sessions after pleading guilty to keeping a wedge tailed eagle. He claimed he did not know birds like eagles were protected in the ACT and had kept the bird in a backyard cage at Hutt Street Mawson. The bird was removed and taken to Tidbinbilla Fauna Reserve where it was kept for exhibits. Sergeant A H Bird led the prosecution.
