Australia’s population reached 9,745,738 for the year ended June 30, 1958, up 203,000 from the previous year. Male population remained higher than females with 4,866,710 men. Natural increase contributed 136,401 and net migration 66,601. Deaths fell from 85,869 to 84,600 while infant mortality declined to 1,093 from 1,135.
