Metal Trade Employers Warn Policy Could Cost Jobs
Sydney report shows 1955 to 1958 metal industry output rose from £245.7m to £279.4m while workers increased from 182,805 to 193,068 and proprietors rose to 5,662. Mr Barratt warns inflation controls and tax changes may curb labour demand and calls repeal of automatic cost of living adjustments. The association says metal trades offer more employment potential than other industries, with some lay-offs due to demand shifts. The annual general meeting is set for June 3.
