Retailers' Council Urges End To Payroll Tax
The Australian Council of Retailers at Hobart conference urged the removal of the payroll tax in the next Budget. It claims the private sector pays about £32,000,000 payroll tax annually but nets only £15,000,000 in revenue. It also calls for tax rate reductions to pre March 1958 levels and removal of the gate tax on furniture and floor coverings to lower home building costs.
