New account system proves popular as Young's reduces five accounting machines to one automated unit in Queanbeyan. About 5 000 charge accounts are handled monthly with 22 000 sales dockets, and customers now receive complete purchase records with each statement.
The Kingston Branch, now at 17 000 square feet, began in 1925 after Young's bought the block at Canberra's first retail lease auction on December 12 1924. Plans include new windows facing Jardine Street, rear extension and a possible second storey, with Civic Centre distant yet Kingston viewed as a growing shopping hub. Tribute is paid to the late Mr. George Kaye for Kingston's development.
The staff of Youngs Kingston exceeds fifty members with two over thirty years of service. Four veterans surpass a century of combined work including W. Haye 93 years and B. E. Winter 30 years. Others reach 27 16 and eight years plus managerial staff with six to nine years of service.
