Apollo 10 Aboard Lunar Approach Sets Up Moon Flyby

Astronauts Stafford Cernan and Young slept through most of the day as Apollo 10 neared the 100000 mile mark en route to an eight mile lunar orbit. The Saturn V lifted the craft from Cape Kennedy and set a rapid ascent as mission officials planned a live color TV from space and test runs ahead of the July moon landing. Moscow Radio praised the crew while noting risks in the Apollo system and the Venus probes continued orbit studies. Tidbinbilla and Honeysuckle Creek tracking stations will pause operations for the support phase until late May and early June.

Sewage works may be moved

The Senate Select Committee on Water Pollution explored a possible relocation of Canberra’s Weston Creek sewage treatment works. Engineer M Carnell noted the plant, operating since the 1920s and serving about 100 000 people, faces aging methods and odour issues. Flying saucer on film over Deniliquin area

A Deniliquin photographer and five friends filmed a “flying saucer” at Seven’s Weir near Deniliquin New South Wales. The object appeared from about 4 am to 8 15 am over three nights, rising to about 1000 feet, silvery white and far brighter than any star, captured with a 35mm camera and telezoom.
