Four Schemes for Legislation Proposed at Australian Conference

At Canberra the Australian Agricultural Council outlined four schemes to regulate marketing of exportable products through Commonwealth and State cooperation. Proposals include excise levy and bounty, price fixation by states, a direct bounty, and licensing of processing facilities. State cabinets and a possible further conference will decide on adoption. New Zealand may appoint a permanent representative to the council.

British Destroyer Hyperion Stops London Steamer Biangroft

Gibraltar correspondent reports the British destroyer Hyperion stopped the London steamer Biangroft on the high seas between Barcelona and Valencia after it was bombed by rebel planes on May 6. The Hyperion escorted the vessel to Gibraltar and its cargo was examined, with the claim that arms were being carried to Spain.

Death by own action in Campbelltown arsenic case

George Wykes aged 22 at Campbelltown died after saying he had taken arsenic when a stomach pain struck. He refused ambulance aid, is believed to have swallowed the poison near his employer’s shop and possibly discarded the bottle in the river. Police see no clear motive for the act.

Tremors at Salamaua Hit Isthmus and Wau

The body of Mrs Annie Brown aged 48 was found this morning at Lake Parramatta. She had left home yesterday afternoon to walk in Parramatta Park and did not return. Police began a search and a man saw the body floating. Mrs Brown had recently suffered a nervous breakdown and police think she may have drowned while experiencing a temporary loss of memory.
