Finnish forces hold the ruins of Viipuri amid severe pressure on the Western Karelian Isthmus and near the Mannerheim Line. Russian assaults on the eastern Isthmus were repelled with heavy losses to the enemy as Finnish air reconnaissance and raids reported targeting Russian positions.

Sir Stafford Cripps, a British Labour MP, reportedly flew to Moscow during a trip from Chungking that was said to target Sinkiang. The British Embassy denied an official mission while Cripps said he sought information to clarify Russian policy and Anglo Soviet relations. He claimed no meeting with Chiang Kai-shek. Tokyo reports Haichow bolstered as a major commercial military base.
