Paris report says President de Gaulle ordered the recall of a French division from Algeria amid fears of a European crisis later this year. He spoke at a garden party of lawmakers about settling the Iberian matter and warned of potential East West tension in Berlin.

Australia's new Governor General Lord de Lissle is named a Knight of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem as Viscountess de L'Isle becomes a Commander. The Queen's overseas representatives are often invited to join the order when taking office. de Lissle attends a farewell recital at Australia House before departing for his post.
The Parliamentary Social Services Committee of the Liberal and Country parties urges the Government to improve payments in several categories. Treasury and Social Service departments study committee recommendations. Cabinet will review cost estimates during the Budget meetings starting July 18 for three days. The committee may extend unemployment and sickness benefits beyond the first child and increase child endowment payments, allowances for wives of invalid pensioners, and civilian widows.
Canberra man Mr. W. H. Boreham has been selected to attend the 25th course at the Joint Services Staff College in the United Kingdom in October. He is a civilian officer with the Department for the Navy. Also chosen are Commander F. B. Nolan and Lieutenant Colonel D. B. Finer.
