Australian agricultural implement industry traced to Ridley and Mackay
The Australian agricultural implement industry grew from early use of Ridley’s steam threshers and Mackay’s 1884 harvesting machine. By 1927-28 it employed 5,729 in 157 factories. 1931-32 saw 2,634 workers in 137 plants amid wheat downturns. The Sunshine works and protective policies shaped growth, export trade, and later price declines.
