WA government moves to break from the Grants Commission system after 345 years of support. Premier David Brand says talks with Canberra will seek terms for withdrawal possibly including integrating current grants into the normal financial assistance grant. WA revenue from mineral royalties and stamp duty fuels the push amid a four state standard proposal. Tasmania remains the only other beneficiary of the commission.
