Prime Minister Menzies said in Townsville that Britain would not join the European Common Market without fully considering Australia’s views. He noted ongoing close consultations between Australian and UK governments over the past three years, which would continue.
Mr Menzies in London emphasizes Australia’s demand for prior consultation with Commonwealth nations before Britain joins the European Common Market. Canberra officials say no official Canadian proposal to form a Pacific Common Market or a visit by Canada’s trade minister has been confirmed.
London reports three senior British Cabinet ministers will travel from London next week to consult Commonwealth leaders on possible links with the European market.
