Prisoners who played leading roles in Fremantle Gaol riots this month were sentenced in Perth today to additional gaol terms. The ruling marks a harsher penalty for inmates involved in the disturbances at Fremantle.
In Melbourne today tariffs on farm equipment dominated a public inquiry. Prisoners were arraigned under the Prisons Act with several sentenced for damaging prison property and abusive language. Professor Gruen urged farm machinery be placed under bounty rather than tariff, citing higher costs to major exporters.
